Beginning choir 5/21/18

Today we worked on music theory.
•We went over major and minor scales
•We learned new ways to get from major to minor scales
•We also worked on figuring out how to tell if the minor will be sharp or flat or natural
•Also raffle tickets are due tomorrow

Beginning choir 5/15/18

Today we started researching what song to do for our solo and listening to it.

Our finals will be graded along these lines.
•10%- sight reading
•40%- final test
•50%- solo
      (Solo is broken down into parts)
       - 10% paper (double spaced, musicality, and original artist)
       - 40% solo

CV, Wednesday 05/09/18

Announcements
-Historians, Please keep collecting pictures.
-Secretaries please make sure to update the blog daily and copy and paste the announcements from the google folder into the blog.
-Class Lists are still in consideration and will be posted after the Spring Concert.
-Basket Raffle - My Favorite Things - Items due May 7. Please donate items or a few dollars toward the basket raffle.  The theme is “my Favorite things”  DUE MAY 7 That is in one week from today
-Our spring concert is May 11 at 4:30 & 7:30.  Students are required to be at both.  It is a test grade.  The dress rehearsal is also required and it is May 10 from 2:30-5:30.  This is also a test grade.  You are required to be here the whole time. For the day of the concert, you will stay after school and the boosters will feed you dinner between the concerts.
-Please make sure you check your concert attire.  Make sure you have all pieces and it is clean.
-Librarians, plan to stay after school May 2, May 9, & May 16 from 2:30-3:30 to help with the choral library.  Anyone who needs volunteer hours can also stay and help. Again the first 3 Wednesdays of May will be choral library organizing days.  Librarians plan to stay after school and anyone else who would like to help can stay too. From 2:30-3:30
-The link for the Concert Tickets was sent out on remind.  Email Mrs. Patchett if you didn’t get the text.
-CV & CONCERT : The chorus booster scholarship applications are available on the front table. They are due MAY 11, this is the same day as the concert, so please do not forget to turn in the application.
-Concert & CV: Seniors, if you plan to sing a solo or a small group song, auditions are Today from 2:30-3:30. If you have not filled out the solo/small group song form online.  Please do that ASAP.
-Also don’t forget to go to 2 concerts and write your critiques due May 21

Rehearsal:
-Mr. Wilson was here and we worked through Benedicamus and Earth Song
-Then we sang Let My Love, Rytmus, and My Soul just as a reminder of things we already fixed
-Dress Rehearsal is tomorrow folks!!! MAKE SURE YOURE THERE ITS A TEST GRADE
-Check concert attire make sure it’s clean, we don’t want to smell you :-)

Beginning choir 5-8-18

Today we ran through all of our rehearsal music.

•we listened to all of our songs via recording from yesterday and critiqued it.
•on “Sinnuh Man” we practiced how bright to make the music 1-10 and decided on about a three
•”Bonse Aba” we worked on our dynamics and really emphasizing deiffeeent sounds.
•”Benedictus” we worked on our dynamics during the Hosana part and making our vowels taller.

New thing in “Bonse Aba”
•after Wesley goes “moo yayaya” and we start singing “mooyayaya mooyayaya ba qua le sa” we are swaying starting to the left.

Rehearsal:
Let My Love Be Heard
-We listened to yesterday’s recording and fixed some stuff
-Crescendo on the oohs in the beginning.. start quieter so you have somewhere to go
-Altos be mindful of the tenuto on page 2
-Tenors need to speed up a little bit on the “Angels where you soar” part- it’s dragging
-Bottom 3 parts, don’t be overpowering when the sopranos have melody
-Basses worked on the part when the women sing “whispering” and they have a changing note
-Don’t go flat when you descend
-Ahhh section picked up much faster
-On the last page, the descending “Ahhh’s” need to flow rather than sound choppy
-We also worked on our entrance for the last page
My Soul
-We also listened to this recording and went over things
-The first word, “In” needs to be heavy
-“Da” needs to be taller because we just sound like a bunch of hillbillies when we sing “duh”
-Remember to Pulse on “Lord”
-DO NOT add a ‘t’ at the end of Lord
-vowels need to be worked on throughout the song
-Tenors worked with Mr. Leonard on not pushing
-We also need to add more feeling into the song
-Right now, ‘my’ is chewed
-The end is boring
