Beginning Thursday 4/25

Thursday 4/25
Today we simply reviewed Child of Peace, Irish Blessing, and Awake. We just ran the songs to where we know them and worked on some more unsure parts of the songs.

We spent a majority of class learning about Musical theory intervals, the notes went as followed
As a reminder, and Interval is the space between 2 notes. When counting an Interval you include the line/space the top and bottom note. Ex. if 2 notes are on the same line/space the interval is 1, if the 2 notes are 1 space/line apart the interval is 2 and so on.
Harmonic intervals are intervals of notes that are played at the same time, they are on top of one another.
Melodic intervals are intervals of notes that are played at a different time one is farther right than the other.

A large part of this lesson was learning what and how to find Number Quality. We used these steps
  1. identify the interval number
  2. find the letter name of the lower note and label it
  3. figure out what the key signature would look like if the lower note was DO
    1. Ex. lower note is G write the key signature for G Major
  4. Write out the scale letter including the accidentals.
    1. ex. G Major written out is G A B C D E F♯ G because G major has 1 sharp at F
  5. Find the letter name of the higher note and label it
  6. determine if the higher note lines up with the Key signature
    1. Ex. If G was the lower note and B was the higher one it lines up but it G is the lower note and B♯ was the higher note it doesn't line up.
next we learned this sequence: P1, M2, M3, P4, P4, M5, M6, P8 this is the Number quality sequence. The P stands for Perfect and the M stands for Major. Right now we aren't working with accidentals so you can just line up the interval number with its Number quality. But once accidentals are introduced you will need to use all the steps above.

Reminders
  • Theory homework on Intervals due Friday at midnight. B lunch is open for question and theory help
