Beginning Wednesday 2/6

Wednesday 2/6
There's a lot to cover so I'll start with some general changes that will be happening in choir in the coming days. First off Mrs. Patchett has decided that it would be best if we remove the chairs from our risers. Lets just say we were not to fond of this idea. It will be just like when we are practicing for the concert except with more room. We will be allowed to sit on the ground and if you have a condition or injury you will get to sit in a chair. We also will start to do a new warm up daily. Basically it is just jogging in place and singing scales saying "pop" instead of solfege. Jogging in place allows almost everyone to hit higher notes easier.
We worked on Take Me to the Water today. page 7 measures 27-29 mainly getting the timing down from the long "water" and the sopranos "oh,oh,oh"
Lastly we learned some theory mainly about different types of minor scales: First remember what a relative minor key is and what a natural minor scale is (look at the posts on Jan. 30th and 23rd for reminders) We learned about 2 new types of scales Harmonic and Melodic. We also learned that scales can be drawn increasing (low to high), decreasing  (high to low) or both (low to high back to low). For your homework you will need to draw an Increasing and decreasing scales.
Harmonic scales are scales where the note with the solfege "Sol" is raised half a step you do this by putting an accidental in front of Sol for both and increasing and decreasing scale If in the Key signature Sol is Flat ♭ you put a natural ♮ in front. If it is natural then you put a sharp ♯ in front of it. If it is Sharp i'm pretty sure you make it a Double sharp ♯♯
A melodic scale is a scale where both Fa and Sol are raised half a step up but ONLY for the Increasing scale. If you have to draw both an Increasing and Decreasing scale you raise the first Fa and Sol with accidentals but then you put their original accidental (whats in the key) in front of it  for the decreasing section.
That's the best I can explain it in words its easier with examples. If you need help I'm sure someone will love to help you in the choir room B lunch
