We started the day taking notes on Accidentals:

• accidentals are symbols that make a note higher or lower than it originally was
• ♭ - is a flat 
• flats take a note and bring it down half a step 
• like moving from a white key down to black key on a piano
• ♯- is a sharp 
• sharps take a note and bring it up half a step
• moving from white key up to a black key 
• ♮- is a natural 
• cancel out a different accidental 
• the note is back to the note for the line and space it is 
• when writing an accidental on a staff it goes to the left of the note head and on the same line or space of the note head 
• Ex. ♭♩

• when writing the name of an accidental note you put the name of the note then the accidental symbol 
• Ex. G♯
• if a measure has an accidental all notes on the same line or space will be the same accidental 
• either until a different accidental is in the measure or until the measure ends
• an Enharmonic is the term when 1 pitch has 2 or more names
• all notes are enharmonics
• Ex. G♯ is the same as a A♭
• there are also double sharps × and double flats ♭♭ 
• we will not be working with them for a while but just know they exist.

     We also started and learned the first 4 measures of the Hallelujah chorus but we will not be keeping the original set of music, Ms. Patchett is making photocopies for us.

Announcements

Our Mattress Sale is Oct. 20th. YOU can earn $25 per referral for every customer that comes in and purchases a mattress and says you were the one to refer them!  We will also need a few volunteers on Oct. 20 throughout the day. The sign up list is on charms.

Musical Auditions will be Oct. 15 & 16. The application and sign-ups to audition have been posted online. There will be call-backs on Oct. 25.  Please leave this date open in case you are needed. Mostly likely, not everyone who auditioned will be called for call-backs.

Our Acme Pizza Spirit Night is less than one week from today! It is Monday, Oct. 15th

Butterbraids will be delivered on Oct 18th. You need to plan to pick up your butterbraids right after school and get them to a freezer. The butterbraids can only be out of the freezer for 2 hours after you pick them up before they start to thaw and expand and will be ruined.

Interims will be going home on Thursday.

Officers in each class will need to meet with Mrs. Patchett on a schedule this week.
